Table Captain's Guide

1. What am I supposed to do as a Table Captain?

  • Attend the Table Captain Kickoff Party

  • Invite 9 guests to sit at your table

  • Submit or email your completed guest list to Lesa Russelll at lesar@dnda.org or mail
    5411 Delridge Way SW
    Seattle, WA 98106-1479

  • Call your guests by October 24, to remind them about the event.

  • Attend November 7th sit down with your guests.

  • Have a wonderful time!!!

2. How does a Table Captain invite People?
THE quickest way is to go through your address book & identify people you know who care about affordable housing issues & strengthening & sustaining communities. While it will be easiest to invite guests who are already familiar with DNDA, this is also an excellent opportunity to introduce new people to DNDAís work & educate them about its importance.

Remind guests that their participation will directly impact the lives of families, children, & local businesses in the Delridge community. They can and will make a difference!!!

If someone is not able to attend, be sure to send a pledge envelope to give them an opportunity to contribute which are provided to Table Captains.

3. What do I say when I call to invite someone?

You: Hi "Bill", this is "Kate". How are you?

Bill: Great! How are you? How was your vacation?

You: It was good. The main reason for my call is--I'm spending some time helping a non-profit organization that I care a lot about.

Bill: What ís the organization?

You: The Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association. They work to engage residents, businesses & institutions in creating & maintaining a thriving Delridge community. Some of their projects include: The Delridge Library--rehabilitating the Historic Cooper School into an arts & cultural center , developing Longfellow Creek Trail, building affordable homes, Croft Place Townhomes, & building a new West Seattle Food Bank & Community Resource Center. Currently DNDA has 75 units of affordable housing.

Bill: Wow. That sounds like really important work.

You: Well, it's an important issue. What I like about DNDA is that they focus on not just assisting individual households, but on the long term-health of the entire community. Delridge is a really diverse community, this is a fundraiser to provide helpful tools to families who need it most, so you should know that everyone will be invited to contribute to DNDA at the end of the program. The goal this year is that each table raise at least $1,000.

Bill: I don't know, I'm so busy lately...

You: I know, we're all busy. The Links to the Community event is only a couple of hours, but it does make a big difference in the lives of families in our community. Because I feel so strongly about DNDA's work, I'm asking you to take just two hours out of one day to be my guest. I know it doesn't seem like much, but if hundreds of people come, our generosity will allow DNDA to impact the families in Delridge in a positive way.

Bill: Okay, I'll come. Now, how about those Seahawks!

4. What do I actually do at the event?

  • Arrive by 5:30 PM on Nov 7, 2008

  • Register at the Table Captain desk.

  • Pick up your Table Captain packet which includes nametags for your guests, blank pledge cards & pens.

  • Greet your guests as they arrive & show them to your table. (Please do not hand them their pledge cards yet)

  • Toward the end of the program, a presenter will let you know when to distribute the pledge cards & envelopes to your guests. A great way to encourage your guests to start filling out their own pledge cards is for you to set an example.

  • At the end of the program, collect all the pledge cards & envelopes & place them in your Table Captain packet envelope. Please do not allow your guests to take pledge cards home. Volunteers will come by to collect Table Captain packets.

5. Do I need to do anything after the event?
A nice touch would be to send cards or letters to your guests after the event, thanking them for supporting you & DNDA's work in the community. Some Table Captains bring small, unofficial "gifts of appreciation" (for example, flowers or chocolates)

6. Are there official Links to the Community invitations?
YES but It will mean much more to your guests if you contact them personally to ask them to attend Links than if they receive a generic invitation in the mail.
